Root Canal Treatment
What is Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a specialist procedure designed to save a tooth that has become severely infected or decayed. RCT is the only clinical alternative to extraction, when the internal pulp containing nerves and blood vessels is inflamed.
Clinical Indicators for RCT
The need for a root canal is usually signaled by:
Persistent Spontaneous Pain
Sharp or throbbing pain that worsens when lying down.
Thermal Sensitivity
Lingering pain after contact with hot or cold substances.
Periapical Abscess
A localized infection or swelling at the root tip visible on an X-ray.
Deep Trauma
Discoloration or nerve death caused by a physical impact.
The Treatment Protocol
Access Cavity
An opening is made in the crown to reach the infected pulp chamber.
Canal Shaping
Precision files are used to remove diseased tissue and shape the narrow root canals.
Disinfection
The canals are flushed with antimicrobial agents to eliminate bacterial colonies.
Obturation
The sterile space is sealed with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha.
